Novartis Presentations
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of meeting with veterinary hospital managers and practice owners in Long Island and New Jersey to discuss various, topical legal issues facing contemporary North American veterinarians. Congratulations to Novartis Animal Health for organizing these sessions which were appreciated by all in attendance. Among other things, the various groups participated in some lively discussions about the legal consequences for breaches of veterinary ethics and debated whether or not the courts should recognize that animals may be some form of “special” property giving rise to non-economic damage awards for claims such as “loss of companionship”. While no clear consensus was achieved, the issues were raised with the hope of fostering some further discussions among members of the profession.
